Ben Schumaker, founder of the Memory Project, made it possible for neglected and disadvantaged children all over the world to have something beautiful to call their own. Photographs are taken of these precious children and are sent to artists so they can recreate a beautiful portrait for them. The artwork is then sent back to the orphanage and a picture is taken of each orphan holding their portrait. Oftentimes students will receive letters of gratitude from the orphans. I take for granted every day that I have piles of photo albums in my basement, collecting dust. Through this international project, children who have nothing, are given something unique, that can not be replaced.
